I hope to write more on this film later, but briefly….

“Children of Invention”: Financially-strapped single mother Elaine (Cindy Cheung) and her two young children (Michael Chen and Crystal Chiu) struggle to make ends meet in Boston, prompting Elaine to take a questionable job whose consequences reverberate throughout the family. Writer-director Tze Chun’s feature-length debut is the real deal: a lively, nuanced, wonderfully-acted and emotionally-rich evocation of family life tested by economic misfortune. A simply terrific movie.
