Multi-purpose field
A new multi-purpose grass field that can be used for lacrosse and soccer. Take the Carpenter Avenue entrance. Go up the hill, and the field is just off to the right.

Softball field
The varsity softball team finally gets to play home games on the high school campus, on a new field built near the board office. The field will have new dugouts, as well as a home run fence. Wind screens will be on the surrounding fence. It is expected to be completed by next spring.

Concession stand
The new concession stand is larger than the old one and has better appliances. It was built with windows that face the football field and windows that face the soccer field, allowing the concession workers to also watch the games.

Entrance
The entrance has been renovated to create the feeling of walking into a complex. Under the gateway is a brick walkway with the names of the 2008 graduating class on each, because it was inconvenienced by the construction.

Press box
The new press box will seat 100 people, and have windows on both sides to provide views of allsports being played at the complex. It will be heated, and have Internet access.

Video scoreboard
The high definition video scoreboard is 25 feet wide and 15 feet high, with the ability to show instant replays. There are plans to do player bios, introductions and videos. Basically, anything that can be put into a computer can be fed to the scoreboard.

Track
Track and field meets will be held inside and outside of the stadium. The track is polyurethane poured to 13 millimeters, deep enough to allow spikes. It is embedded with an automated timing system, and has an eight-lane track with 10 lanes on the front straightway. Each lane is 48 inches wide – most tracks are 36-42 inches. There are two pole vault areas, each going in a different direction to account for wind. The track is certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations, the world governing body of track, so even a world record counts.

Stadium field
The lighted field will be used for football, soccer and lacrosse. Middletown hopes to have it meet the standards of world soccer governing body FIFA, which will allow it to host pro socccer games. The Sportexe turf is similar to that used by the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. Each blade of “grass” is 2 ¼ inches, and sewn like carpet. The base is a mix of crumbrubber (70 percent) and sand (30 percent). There is no lead in the fibers.

Stadium stands
The new seating capacity will be about 4,000, with the seats angled so a child could be sitting behind an adult and have an unobstructed view. Beneath the stands are the football and soccer locker rooms. There are offices for the coaches, a trainer and any on-site championship committees. There are locker rooms for male and female officials, each with showers. There are large public bathrooms, and two storage areas for track and field, soccer and football.

Soccer Field
New grass turf will be placed on the soccer field, which is targeted to be ready by next September. The complex will accommodate night games. Lighting will be done at an angle to cause minimal intrusiveness to the complex’s neighbors.

Baseball field
The baseball field will be redone, hopefully in time for the 2009 spring season. There will be new dugouts. It will be a grass surface and have lights. There will be wind screens around the fences. The home run fence will be a temporary one, because a large portion of the outfield runs into the soccer field.

Weight room

There is a new weight room, with the old equipment scheduled to be replaced by modern state-of-the-art equipment. This will be available for all of the school’s athletes.

Pool
The pool area went through nearly a complete renovation. Spectators are now off the deck in an upstairs gallery. The floor was re-tiled and the starting blocks and diving board were replaced. There’s a new scoreboard and concession stand, and a new coaches’ office.
